What’s going on, readers? Azul here again. Today I’ll be covering Volcanion. By now, it has been fairly played out and is already known for its strengths and weaknesses. With the release of Sun and Moon, however, and the rise of Grass Type decks, there should be a shift in the meta overall. I thought it would be worth taking another look at it and how it will fair in the new meta heading into Anaheim Regionals, because I believe it to be a fairly strong contender.

Volcanion

Since its release, Volcanion has been considered by many players to be a Tier 1 deck and has shown the strength of its raw power and consistency by taking top 8 spots at almost every major event this season. Unfortunately for Volcanion, as the meta has changed from event to event, the Tier S deck of each meta shift has always had a favorable matchup versus Volcanion - most notably DarkDragonsGarb, YveltalGarb, Mega Gardy and TurboDark. However, with the release of Sun and Moon and the rise of Grass Type decks, I thought it was worth taking another look at Volcanion heading into a new meta. I think the meta might be the best it has ever been for Volcanion at Anaheim Regionals.

The List

Volcanion has always been a straightforward and consistent deck. These factors have made it easy to tech a card or 2 for certain matchups. My list, however, forgoes this and instead tries to feed into Volcanion’s strengths of consistency and high damage output by keeping my list as basic as possible.
